Personal Profile

Dr Silvana Bettiol - Is a Visiting Researcher at Oxford Brooks University, she held a Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Psychology, Social Work and Public Health (2011-2013) before returning to Australia as a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the School of Medicine, University of Tasmania. She has 20 years of university teaching and medical research experience.

Silvana has a PhD in Medical Sciences and completed several years of postdoctoral training at Yale University, USA, in the Department of Cell Biology. She completed a year of postdoctoral work at the Hopital Necker Children’s Hospital in Paris with a focus on Identifying New Genes Involved in Juvenile kidney disorders. In 2009, she completed her Masters of Public Health at Curtin University in Western Australia and completed an internship with the WHO Human Genome Programme (HGN) and an elective period with Oxford Centre for Monitoring and Diagnosis in Primary Care (MaDOx), Department of Primary Care, University of Oxford.

  • Social and environmental determinants of disease
  • Non-communicable disease prevention strategies and risk factors
  • Diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases
  • Research methods including systematic reviews and meta-analysis
